Hey now. Look at that updated living room.

As mentioned earlier I’ve been working on a painting project with Sherwin-Williams for National Painting Week. Most of the time my taste and the house leans towards a pretty predictably neutral (aka browntown), so when it came time to add a bit of orange to the mix I wanted it to be BOLDLY orange and therefore decided on Sherwin Williams ‘Raucous Orange‘.

DIY ART  |   MINIMALIST PAINTED FRAME

Art ain’t easy, but hey, at least this project is.

Materials

- Basic White Frame  >  these are from Target, but Ikea and many others have similar options.

- Paint  >  as mentioned this is Sherwin Williams ‘Raucous Orange

- Art  >  I used a couple black & white minimalism inspired pieces I printed out at home.

- Sponge Brush / Fine Paint Brush

- Painters Tape

On the mantel is a larger framed piece painted symmetrically about 3/4 of the way around while the smaller framed piece leaned on the fauxdenza is painted asymmetrically for an unexpected hit of color.

How To

- Decide where the painted detail begins and ends on the frame.

- Wrap a piece of painters tape straightly and evenly around the front and side of the frame.

- Use a sponge brush / fine paint brush to apply paint evenly on the front and side of the frame.

- Do a few coats for even coverage.

- Remove the tape and call it a day.

Hey now. A bit of graphic color makes a difference.

I’ve been messing around with a bunch of DIY art type projects and it’s been difficult to get something going that doesn’t look too ‘DIY’ or actually adds to a space in a positive way. The addition of some unexpected color and an unusual composition painted onto the frame turned out to be a nice twist to an old idea and keeps things modern amongst all the vintage. Minimal and bold, easy and budget friendly art for anyone who – like me – is also stuck in browntown. Color it up!

Check out some more orange themed paint action over at Design Crush and look out for some red/pink projects tomorrow on  Vintage Revivals & Style By Emily Henderson. Paint it up!

AMERICAN BUFFALO

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

Well hey big boy.

Where have you been all my life? On the range or something? Mmmm, that’s hot.

Sharon Montrose (aka the brains and beauty behind The Animal Print Shop) just released this chunky furry hunk of American Buffalo, a HUGE print of which we installed in real life in my bedroom a few months back during a photo shoot for Sharon’s shop. It was, of course, a great shoot with some great folks and I’m pretty pumped to show off more of Sharon’s images (cough cough, of which I styled around the house and that Laure photographed) as soon as they are released.

So pop over and check out this handsome Buffalo as well as the other newly released animal prints, all of which are available in all sorts of sizes – including GIANT, right here.

JAMBOX

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Being distracted by projects and traveling and other such nonsense like losing my camera battery charger, I’ve generally been MIA from the interwebs for much longer than I’d expected as well as so clutter-minded that this post has somehow floated around forgotten in draft limbo for an unreasonably long while.

How long, you ask? One month? Nope. Many multiple months? Yup.

Whoops.

Anyway, many many moons ago, I pulled together my props and helped style up some interiors Laure was shooting for a campaign launching the new BIG Jambox by Jawbone. Like the original smaller scale Jambox wireless speaker, this bigger version is just as portable and designed by Yves Behar and also makes the sounds go BOOM. This photo shoot was actually my first experience with any sort of Jambox and I have to admit that it sounded pretty impressive just streaming music from our phones while we worked. Oh, and that wireless thing is so very nice seeing that I despise nothing more in the world than seeing wire clutter. Plus it recharges up like any other mobile thing.

I totally want one, dammit.

Ok, get it together lady.

BAM. Some of my favorite photos from the shoot:

Mmmmmmmm. Yum.

Of course all these gorgeous photos were shot by my favorite photographer Laure Joliet, who is as always fantastic to work with  as is the ever awesome Heather. We three shot the campaign really quickly by hitting up 3 locations a day for 4 days in a row and pulled together a large stylish collection of images featuring the BIG Jambox – all of which can be seen here on pinterest.

We did it! Yeah!

Thanks again to Tracy, Gregory, Simon, Laura, Elsie, Abby, Erin and Jerome for sharing all of your beautiful homes and being so generously accommodating to us and thank you forever Laure and Heather for being the best.
