Pendants

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Almost half a year ago I picked up this pair of trashed bubble lamps. A dealer I had been bartering with pulled them out of a house in Orange County and proceeded to poke holes in them accidentally on the trip home. They were smoke stained, beat-up and sort of wilting in his garage storage; but I thought they were pretty rad. He didn’t think he could sell them in their terrible condition so he let me take them for free and try my hand at restoring them.

Well, they never got restored. I had BIG plans, and the lamps sat and sat and sat.

I started to enjoy the weird color and tattered vintage quality. It’s what The Boy likes to say when I bring thrashed stuff home or we accidentally break something, “its character”.

For $36 I bought I couple of pendant cord kits and decided to wire them up, flaws and all.

We installed them in the master bedroom hovering over each nightstand. Lighting around the bed has been consistently on my mind and I think this pair is a good fit, especially with the glam ceiling fixture.

Now I just need to style up those nightstands…

Ikea

I am addicted to finding the right linens for the master bedroom, but I fail time and time again. The process of how to dress a bed that looks inviting and casual is a huge mystery to me. I can’t seem to get that right look and have gone through numerous sets of duvets in search of it.

Ikea sucked me in yet again promising that the BLÅSIPPA dark gray duvet would solve all my bedroom issues.

The BLÅSIPPA turned out to be a dog drool magnet. Iggy DROOLS like crazy for a little tiny dog and was super offended that I woke him up to make the bed for a couple of shots.

I tried to grab a shot of his drool puddle before it dried but failed. This pic doesn’t really do justice to the size and quantity he left.

The gray of the BLÅSIPPA is nice but has a bit of a sheen and purple undertone that isn’t working out the way I hoped. So the hunt will continue for something more along these lines…

Albini Ottoman

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Oh no. I did. YES.

I was a bit of a naughty girl and decided to give myself a little present after a long hard tedious summer bereft of thrifty fun. The Franco Albini ottoman has been on my mind for a long time…I NEEDED one…a real one…desperately…

That stupid one click ebay bidding totally reeled me in. It is just so f*ing easy and addictive. Somehow I knew that this baby was destined to be mine, and in the end it was. For $102 – which was way over the budget I had in mind. Stupid internet.

Whatever, don’t judge me. Yes, this is not the thriftiest moment – but it is a deeply satisfying one. The ottoman is in amazing shape and BEAUTIFUL. Even all you rattan haters have to agree that this thing is rad.

Keep looking at it. Fall in love.
