Bench

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I picked up this handmade vintage bench on recent thrifting rounds. It was a pretty surprising choice considering its a little bit more rustic than the rest of the house. I sort of instantly fell in love with the sturdiness and smooth worn finish plus all these amazing handmade details.

Heres a detail pic. Check out all those great butterfly key joints and weird rectangular plugs. I think it has a very sort of Scandinavian meets Nakashima thing going on that I’m super digging.

Now I’ve got to style that bad boy up.

At least it sort of hides the ghetto ass cable.

I found a little Swedish Dala horse at the thrift store for $2.35. I think he used to be sold at Ikea and had the worst paint job ever. Oh, and a cheap pair of wire rim glasses, he was like an emo math nerd Dala.

He got a makeover with a fresh coat of glossy black paint and now kicks it in the den with my little ceramic viking dude. Is it me or is it getting so very Euro around here? Well, Euro via thrift store – not because I’m actually worldly or anything.

Pairs of pears, pairs of Swedes, pairs of seventies Mexican ceramic creatures. Ahhhhh collecting. How it spirals insanely out of control so easily.

I never would have thought that I’d find a little friend for the giant pear terrarium. But look-y who walked magically into my life after a trip to Revival Thrift in Palm Springs.

What a cutie for $3.

I really need to get to planting some succulents or something in my empty pair pals. Its been one of those projects on my to-do list that just never seems to get done. I’ve been really busy sleeping and just working hard at being a lazy dirt bag…just take a look at the half primed house and unfinished bathroom.

Pear terrariums aren’t really ranking high on my list of crap that needs resolving.
