The Great Rearrangement

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Marvel at the power of human beings moving things. Things like coffee tables.

Remember this one from Craigslist? BOOM. In the den now.

The giant Burly Beast? BOOM. Living room.

It only weighs about 500lbs. I think I blew a gasket and The Boy has a shiny new hernia.

Still need a new mantel.

What about lights? You might have noticed the new Craigslist bubble lamp made its way into the bedroom.

But what of the lucite/gold motherf*cker?

BOOM. Guest bedroom.

Which means the Sputnik had to find a new home…

BOOM. Back to the den.

See that? How I made that circle back to the den? Those are blogging skills.

As you can see we moved some stuff around, moved other things to storage and are testing out the new arrangement. So far? Good to go. Weather and schedules have been a little nuts, so exterior projects have been put on hold. Which gets me all itchy for change and then the interior takes the brunt of my crazy.

Office Light

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The office part of the den is my constant nemesis. It used to look like THIS, no wait, lets look at THIS really old version.

I hate the built in desk – which we can’t rip out, or else I seriously would. I hate the stupid half wall of wainscoting that is actually inset in the plaster and therefore makes up half the wall (structurally). I hate the stupid oddly placed hardwired light thing. HATE. I hate the stupid high electrical sockets. I hate that there is nowhere to hide cords since the desk is built into the wall.

Not going to change it though. Costs too much and its not worth it in the long run.

Anyhow, I wanted to try out a simple lighting solution with a basic lamp holder and half chrome bulb. This is sort of a test run for an idea I have for the bathroom.

Hey. It works.

I can’t decide if I want to paint it white or black, I’m feeling very blah and uninspired right now about everything and kind of need a break deciding about things. I’m not totally Debbie Downer though, I do like the light it gives off at night. Also, since it’s a half chrome bulb it doesn’t blind you – which is always a plus with a wall mounted light.

Ugh. I hate you desk.

TV

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Speaking of new giant things bought for the den – we took the plunge awhile ago and got a flat screen. Finally…after much debate. And the death of our TV.

How bourgeoisie.

It’s a Sony Bravia. It’s 40 inches. We got it at Best Buy.

I’m not like a tech person, but it seems to work fine. Better than our old hunk of crap. It still needs a wall mounting thing and the cables need to get cleaned up – maybe we need a new credenza to hide all the boxes and ugly things. Like Jill and TK’s great credenza.

Ugh, the whole thing feels kind of ridiculously middle class to me, but seriously I don’t even think they make TV’s that aren’t flat now. Somehow I feel like “that guy”, you know, the one that’s too invested in television or something. I do love me some TV time tough. I want to make it better with that Netflix box! How do I get Netflix to my TV? Cheaply. Oh, and not with an ugly cable.
