Kitchen Light

Monday, June 14th, 2010

We’ve been through a lot of kitchen lights at this house. This new addition makes number four installed in the kitchen since we moved in a few years back. Here and here are some of the previous incarnations.

We procured this bad boy off some friends of The Brick House (thanks guys!) who were looking to deaccession some of their mid century finds at the big sale. I *begrudgingly, of course* took it off their hands and installed it immediately. LOVE, love, love it.

Now we need another pair of chairs for our kitchen breakfast bar since I sold our faux bamboo ones.

I really want a pair of FDB Møbler chairs – just like Kitka. Or possibly something more Hans Wegner looking. I don’t know…I can’t decide. So many chairs out there to love, so little kitchen space available.

Kitchen light

I picked up this overhead light at the thrift store for $9.95. I dug the scale and graphic shape of it but not the weird 70’s brass – and hey, don’t get me wrong I love me some brass. Usually just the shiny stuff.

I sprayed it a glossy black and The Boy installed it in the kitchen.

What I didn’t notice till the fixture was all installed is that it’s missing some sort of bulb cover. There is an inset canopy flange thingy with screws that causes the bulb to hang so so low.

Looks like a trip to the hardware store for a simple little globe that fits the 5″ canopy is in the near future…poop.

Kitchen Kilim

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I’m totally a sucker for ebay kilims.

I nervously auctioned my way to winning another rug on ebay with the intent of sticking it in the kitchen. It fits at 10′ x 4′ and is definitely lovely for $22.50.

When I saw it on ebay I thought the pale aqua color and the subtle geometric pattern would pick up the color in my nutty turquoise counter tops. Surprisingly the dark brown geometric pattern creates a great frame against the dark floors…I was a little worried about mixing the dark brown and black. Overall it gives a nice layer of texture to the kitchen which has recently started to feel a little too atomic kitsch and not as modernist snazzy as I’d like.

This rug seems to be of better quality than the one in the bedroom. Its a bit thicker and way less rough…although I’m really not sure how these things should feel.

I might have kilim mania. I still really want a few more to throw around the house.

I wonder how many is too many?
