Plants

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Dear Interweb,

Do you know what this tree is called?

Also, you might be able to name these plants as well.

My local nursery totally hates me and will thank you. I’ve been trying their patience with endless questions about drought tolerant plants and xeriscaping and saying “You know, all the plants they use in Palm Springs…nope, I don’t know what they are called”.

They keep telling me that I want a cactus garden…to which I reply NO.

Peaches

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

What could make this week even more fabulous than its already been?

PEACHES!

We went to go see Peaches Monday night to cap off our awesome vacation.

Crowd SURF!

SAY WHAT!

Where would a Peaches concert happen in the middle of nowhere? At Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown which is located in the high desert of Yucca Valley.

Here’s Peaches singing and dancing on an old timey bar.

and here is Peaches marrying 4 girls on stage.

This was probably one of the best concert’s I’ve ever been to. It was out in the middle of nowhere in a fake old western bar outside in the dirt on a rickety stage next to a BBQ pit. There must have only been about 150 people there and it was AMAZING.

We danced and drank out of mason jars and went hog wild under a full moon. Peaches is such an energetic and exciting performer. I’ve always loved her music and was so psyched to see her in such an intimate setting.

If you’ve never listened to Peaches – its filthy, raunchy, awesomeness. I recommend it highly.

Ace Shelving

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We stopped by the Ace Hotel to grab a beer and some fish tacos after sneaking around Palm Springs taking images of landscaping. Overall it turned into a very sneaky camera day. I also had to sneak some shots of how the shelving unit in the Ace lobby was constructed so that I might copy it for my living room.

Here you can see the horizontal brackets. All of the supports are made of thin galvanized plumbing pipe painted black. The main vertical supports pass through each shelf with the horizontal pieces connected by a little three way elbow piece. The back support elbow is glued onto the shelf – I think – it wasn’t quite clear except for a bit of glue leaking out of one of the back horizontal support pieces.

Also these tables? YES PLEASE.
I LOVE the brassy inserts.

I think they could be DIY’d…and maybe I might have to do it.
