Hardoy Butterfly Chairs

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Ahhhhhhhh, the pleasing beautiful symmetry of a matching pair.
*Don’t mind the messy bookcases, they are getting ready for a big change.

I picked up a pair of vintage Knoll Hardoy Butterfly (BFK) Chairs for $60 a pop off of craigslist. Now I have three of these babies. Admittedly an odd amount for one small house.

I dream they will one day be finished off with
leather slings. Like so:

Yummm. Leather.

I’ve found it difficult to source a buttery leather sling that doesn’t cost a fortune. Circa 50 has them, but at $200+ for just one – I’ll have to pass. I may just have to have one fabricated or DIY it.

While I wait for the ultimate leather version to pop up I’m going to use some cheap-o black canvas slings that should arrive shortly through the power of ebay.

So the pair should look like so:

They need a little sanding and a fresh coat of black paint, but in no time they will be BRINGING it (stylewise) to the living room.

Bench

I picked up this handmade vintage bench on recent thrifting rounds. It was a pretty surprising choice considering its a little bit more rustic than the rest of the house. I sort of instantly fell in love with the sturdiness and smooth worn finish plus all these amazing handmade details.

Heres a detail pic. Check out all those great butterfly key joints and weird rectangular plugs. I think it has a very sort of Scandinavian meets Nakashima thing going on that I’m super digging.

Now I’ve got to style that bad boy up.

At least it sort of hides the ghetto ass cable.

Pretending

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

The living room and I have been in a bit of a funk lately. So lets imagine the living room (and my life) updated with some fantasy disposable income.

This is how we update the living room, son. I make it rain decor goodies.

I think it all would look rad with the big gray couch and round coffee table. Now if I just had like $50,000 available to drop the living room…

But seriously, I am totally on the hunt for some sleek-ass matching vintage leather chairs. Safari, Bachelor, Baughman, whatever or whoever it doesn’t mater as long as its a delicious broken in caramel leather. The living room is requiring symmetry.

…or yellow could be nice.
