Slow Patio Progress

Still more slow progress on the patio pavers

The Boy finished straightening up the first hundred or so pavers and the weather keeps ruining all our plans to finish up the last sixty. Stop raining. Stop.

I just looked to see when we started this whole patio project – December 30, 2009. Two months! It didn’t feel that long ago that we started and we still have so much further to go. Something even more depressing – when did we fisrt start working on painting the exterior? August 29th, 2008. It’s been YEARS!

Looks like 2011 may be the year of the exterior as well…possibly 2012.

Brick House Vintage

Monday, March 1st, 2010

We officially ran out of room – room in the house for furniture and room in the garage for storage. As a remedy to this overabundance of vintage I opened a consignment space!

This weekend we went over to the Beaumont Antique Mall and started packing all our leftover vintage into a small rented space. This is an experiment of sorts to see if it is more effective (and a bit easier) than Etsy. After closing my Etsy shop for a brief break I just couldn’t ever get back into the swing of posting, packing and shipping. The shipping just KILLED me and this short break has become pretty permanent.

Things started to pile up…

I kept thinking about this guys consignment booth that is nearby the house at this antique mall off the 10FWY on the way to Palm Springs. I inquired about available space and there just happened to be a spot right next to him.

I didn’t have any shelving for all my “smalls” (that’s what the ladies told me to call my accessories) even though I’ve been on the hunt for a few weeks. So, I resorted to a bit of a Home Depot ad hoc solution with small cinder blocks and a couple of 8′ long pine boards – dorm room style. We also took the lazy way out by not painting out the sad lavender wall color and bluish floor. I was thinking black floors and white walls, but seeing this as an experiment and not wanting to invest a whole lot of cash we kind of  just stuck stuff in.

We still have more to things to add, and if it goes well maybe we might pimp out the space a bit more. The whole thing made me a little depressed; I already miss my stuff like some sort of crazy hoarder!

Trim

Friday, February 26th, 2010

SoCal Edison sent a crew to come trim the HUGE tree in our neighbors backyard. It’s been interfering with the power lines and is an all around “nuisance” so accordingly it needed to get hacked up.

It’s hard to describe the scale of this tree. It’s big, just really massive. The only way to access it is for trimming was on our freshly installed gravel. All the utility guys love to use our big open driveway…

That’s the trimmer dude. He kept waving when he saw I was taking pictures. He’s so high!

I’m glad they put so many cones out. Who knows what kind of traffic or pedestrians could walk into the “trim zone” in our backyard.

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO. Our fresh and lovely driveway covered in pine needle debris. The tragedy.

They gotta come out back next week and finish up, but they really butchered the crap out of the tree. It’s all flat and naked on our side.
