Cowhide

April 28th, 2011

Step one of updating the crap out of the den was painting I guess? Oops. I got a cowhide instead.

I don’t control what my lady love Craigslist offers up on any given day, so this big ‘ol light cowhide popped up and BAM, forget painting. Painting sucks anyways.

Mr. cow needs to relax and flatten out after being folded up and stored away. RELAX DAMMIT.

Otherwise, I’ve been slammed with getting stuff ready for the big sale and the house looks like a hoarding bomb went off and I dare not show the madness overtaking our homestead. It is abysmal living in what feels like a storage shed. Updates and previews soon? I hope? Yes?

Dude, I’ve been looking and can’t find one under $200 and I refuse to settle for that. There’s got to be a parking lot trunk deal for me out there somewhere. “Craigspro” is pretty buff, by the way. Been using it alot, thanks

    2. Ryan on 04/28/2011:

Once flattened out it will look great!

    3. Marlene on 04/28/2011:

Can you iron that thing? Lol.

    4. Fionna on 04/28/2011:

Hell yes, new den is coming together. Can’t remember the painting plans but feels like you need black or grey walls to ground all that cosiness. We’re the same in our house. Knocked a huge garage so we can have a garden, the contents of said garage are in the house now. Brought loads of stuff to auction, made *Pah Dah* €65. Garden will be amazeballs though. Not that I’m stalking your or Anna’s style. *cough*. Much.

Oh yeah, sweet. We also got our Holstein Rug super cheap off craigslist. As for it relaxing, our has been laid out on a radiant heated floor for over a year and you can still see where it was folded up. I did see something on AT about flattening rolled up edges on them though. Haven’t tried it out.

Wow that was one waaaaay big cow! Love that there’s no ‘spots’ on it.

I NEED A NEW COWHIDE. drama has occured. ugh. can’t wait for the sale myself. worried i may try and buy everything before anyone gets there :)

    8. Florian on 04/28/2011:

      Paint: BOO! Cowhide: YAY!

The brown and the cream look really nice together. The little Eames table needs some vignette clutter or a plant or something (do I smell a chicken?).

I’ve been contemplating getting rid of the awful carpet inherited from the in-laws and switching it for some cowhide or several reindeer hides but couldn’t yet bring myself to it. The extremties and corners always look a little flappy to me, even in your perfect rooms. Is there anything that can be done about that? Besides stapling the hides to the floor?

Oh, do show the mess! It would make great before and after pictures, wouldn’t it?

    9. THE BRICK HOUSE on 04/28/2011:

      Bianca – What happened? Cats?

Florian – the den is being cleared out and is getting ready for it’s overhaul after the sale. Let’s just say, the living room is completely torn apart and I can’t walk to my front door. It’s a warehouse in here.

Also, with cowhides a little water and some time weighted down with books helps the curl. I think I need to steam the rest of this sucker to get it flat though.

    10. Süsk on 04/28/2011:

I can come and sit on the rug for a while to get them creases out. I’ve been inhaling cookies left and right and I think my arse would do a far superior job to some “weighty books”. Just, you know, an option. A creepy option.

But seriously, I think that a damp cloth and iron will perhaps get the creases out. You lay the damp cloth on top (one under to protect floor) and iron the hell out of it. I used to work in a costume rental shop (yeah, cringe) and we had a pair of leather chaps that people would stuff into a carrier bag when they returned them and they would be beyond crinkled and this never failed to get them back in great shape. Well…for heavily-used rental chaps at least.

      Gross.

    11. Kathy on 04/28/2011:

      Score! Looks great in there.

    12. Tonia on 04/28/2011:

I like this one..I can’t say if I’ve seen of as of late without the black spots. It’s looking good.

    13. paige @ MCC on 04/28/2011:

I’m spackling and kilz’ing everything in my house right now and it is the least fun. I wish I could score some cow hide instead!

    14. Nette @ This Dusty House on 04/28/2011:

I love it! My parents used to have a sheep skin rug and now I’m kinda wondering what happened to it. I love the shape of the cowhide in the room. It’s perfect!

    15. Daniel on 04/28/2011:

SÜSK: Just wanted to say that “heavily-used rental chaps” is perhaps the scariest phrase I have heard all month. Kudos.

    16. Rivka on 04/28/2011:

The painting above the sofa is gone! The room really needs that girl.

    17. Sarah on 04/28/2011:

I miss LiLo as well. But I must say, with the addition of the lighter hide, I’m finally getting what you’re going for with the leather couch and ottoman. This is gonna be goooood.

    18. Curator on 04/28/2011:

It’s too good for the floor !

And too pale for dirty feet !!

    19. Kat on 04/28/2011:

I want a cowhide! I also refuse to pay $200 plus for it. I’m stalking Craig’s list and haven’t found anything. It’s Chicago you would think something would pop up eventually. But nothing. Just stupid ugly ass crap and overpriced mid-century modern stuff (which I love, I’m just cheap). I really need a good Craig’s list / thrifting score before I slip into depression!

    20. THE BRICK HOUSE on 04/28/2011:

Süsk – gross. the horrors those things probably saw.

I know, lilo is in the living room right now. I have some plans for above the sofa…

    21. sarah on 04/28/2011:

ha! i call my cowhide ‘Mr Cow’ too — looks great!

    22. modernhaus on 04/28/2011:

Wow, I barely recognize the place! From brown and white to…white and brown. Sorry dude. Cream is not a color.

    23. The brick house on 04/28/2011:

Again to you Haus. Suck it.

Loan me some cash, I’ll whip this bad boy into colorful shape.

    24. modernhaus on 04/29/2011:

Tap one of your Swiss bank accounts why don’t you

    25. fine little home on 04/29/2011:

very pretty but i know my two boys and hubby would have that thing looking nasty within a week, yeah they are messy boys.
but i love it in your home!

    26. Rocky on 04/29/2011:

Susk…haha… I have so many disturbing mental images from your post…

Brick House – Love the leather ottoman, where did you score that?

    27. Clare on 04/29/2011:

Hey- anxiously awaiting Brick-Haus sale . Will you be selling many items?…roomsfull of good stuff. hope so. I’m bringing my red pickup truck. Best.

    28. JESSICA DEFINE on 04/29/2011:

I like the walls as they are, why even paint? The hide looks great in the room–I’m a sucker for ‘em too but ours are much darker to hide dog hair.

    29. Holyoke Home on 04/29/2011:

Cow hide on craigslist? How does it smell?

    30. THE BRICK HOUSE on 04/29/2011:

      Rocky – craigslist: http://www.the-brick-house.com/2011/01/pouf.html

Clare – so many items. Your head will explode.

HH – smells fine, not really odoriferous at all.
