Oh, Snap.

January 21st, 2011

Some snaps from my recent gallivanting around.

I am deeming these as both exciting and glamorous. If glamorous means dusty and exciting means surreal.

Also, it appears that Alt Summit and The Homies are happening this week, which has resulted in design blog twitter madness. I hope someone is keeping their eye on the internet before this whole thing implodes.

I hope I’m not stepping on any toes by saying this but the Alt tweets are getting kind of annoying. Maybe it’s just because I’m not there, I don’t know.

The picture of the old guys is crazy. I have a few photos that I have pics from my galavanting about town, never thought to post them. Is that Iggy I spy?

Dyin over that painting of the half-nekkid lady with all her bits almost falling out! I LOVE IT!

    5. Fiona on 01/21/2011:

OMG Mishap, I hear you. Had to temporarily block.

    6. melissa on 01/21/2011:

for jebus’ sake, please tell me you bought that yellow lamp.

    7. Fiona on 01/21/2011:

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk just there.

    8. dabney on 01/21/2011:

yes, did you buy the yellow lamp? which i think is a “bumling?” (really i just wanted the chance to write bumling. because i am a child.)

    9. Kim @ HousetoHomestead on 01/21/2011:

I wonder if that “tacky people” thing is from a glue or tape convention or something.

    10. Jules on 01/21/2011:

Is that a doll sitting on a bench pretending to play a piano? I’m scared. It reminds me of the time my friend and I went into an antiques mall in old town Orange and found a booth dedicated to death. Death. Hundreds upon hundreds of old pictures of dead people, either from crime scenes, funerals, mortuaries, etc. The worst had to be an old plate/image of a man in a casket with his wife sitting next to him in mourning. It was so sad and private. That, or the oil painting of the Victorian corpse child. The child was dead, we think, but standing “Weekend at Bernies” style against a chair in all his Victorian finery. Gah.

    11. THE BRICK HOUSE on 01/21/2011:

I did buy the bumling, its almost a greige color in real life, still trying to figure out where to install.

Jules – that doll spins its head around and like giggles, its hella scary.

    12. Sarah on 01/21/2011:

I almost cried when I read Jules comment about the doll and then I did when I read the reply. SCARY!!

I voted for you on the Homies. Not that you care. But I thought it was the least I can do to thank you for all your blogging… And of course, cool lamp. Also, this is a little belated, but West Elm or some bastard is selling “handmade pottery”, like a set of four. Hand made by children! So I think you may have started a trend. whoopy-doo. I sound like Eeyore today.

I see a Florence Knoll sofa! Where the funkytown did that come from?! Holla.

    16. THE BRICK HOUSE on 01/22/2011:

M/H : I forgot to take pictures of all that sushi. oh, still dreaming about it…

TAM: Thanks for voting – you don’t have to. I won’t win, but its nice to be mentioned.

MLW: You are correct. Split rail. Still figuring out what to do with it…

    17. helloshiella on 01/22/2011:

M, where did you get that base for the eames chair ?

also, i dont like to vote on shit but youre #1 in my <3

nice to see a picture of iggy! puppy was taking ovah!

    18. Jules on 01/22/2011:

Oh my word, it giggles. I just shuddered.

The Homies are hard. Some people deserve to win, and some people are really confident about promoting it to their readers and asking for their support. Sometimes we’re lucky and the winner is both of the above.

The painting of the lady on the rock was my Dad’s favorite. It hung in the main bathroom over the toilet. I believe I still have it. hahahaha

    20. Justin Butts on 01/23/2011:

Not a big fan of the recent hipstmatic looking affects on the photos. I LOVE the blog but prefer standard process digiphotos.

    21. The brick house on 01/23/2011:

Instagram look. I like that they look intentionally bad.

These are all twitter photos taken while running around. I’d prefer a better more portable camera than my iPhone since I just can’t lug around the SLR everywhere. Unless someone has some money for a new thing and a recommendation, I think we are stuck.

      Thanks!

Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl!!!! You found a Bumling!! FUCKING SCORESVILLE. Thanks to an earlier post of yours I have been obsessively hunting one…finally tracked one down from a dealer in LA and it should be arriving this week. I am beside myself with excitement.

I bet you paid less than me. Lucky B.

That lady-on-a-rock painting was just asked about on ask.metafilter last week. http://ask.metafilter.com/176233/Tell-me-about-Consuela

When I saw the painting of the woman on the rock with a little nipple showing it brought me back to my childhood (I know weird). We used to have that thing hanging up on our wall when I was younger, if I recall correctly. It might even have been at my uncles house, I can’t quite remember. I am, however, absolutely certain that I grew up around that thing. Great find. Just curious but how much did it cost?
