2010 : The Year of the Exterior seems to be permanently on hold as the rain incessantly pounds the Hemet valley. Nowhere near as bad as the epic mid-Atlantic snow storms hitting the East Coast, but still, flooding has taken out a few areas and is making the normally brown and dusty valley very, very green. Fighting the Californian drought is awesome but I’m getting a bit of cabin fever.
It’s also dried up the supply of fresh vintage at the surrounding thrift stores. No one wants to donate or clean out their houses during the inclement weather. I get it. I don’t feel like doing much of anything either…

No, you know what – Fuck You El Niño. I wrote this boring post on Sunday and today while heading out on my normal commute to work I found out that my route had literally fallen apart. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Come on. COME ON.
Now I have to commute around a whole goddamn mountain, adding an hour to my drive each way. Predictions for repair range from a week to over a month and another storm is brewing.
I shake my fist at you El Niño.
At least the view is nice on my new scary ass route home…at 7:30pm. I could have been in my pajamas by then.

Nothing like a road collapse to spice up a post. Great photos.
That is intense. And to think I moved to California to avoid extreme weather.
you are too funny. hope that road gets fixed quick.
I was once traveling through the south of Ethiopia in a 4WD and came around the corner and were unable to go further because of a landslide. We were told to sit tight and wait for the bulldozer to clear the way. Sitting tight for almost a day would have been fun if I wasn’t sick and trying not to hallucinate in the back seat. Wish I’d had the sense to take photos. Your post made my night! xxx
p.s I bet even your pajamas look good yes?
at least you’re not in minnesota, right? 20s on a good day is not my idea of fun.
DAMN!! That is bad.
Damn…I knew the Ortega Freeway was bad (I once drove to and back from San Diego on the 74 in a car with no brakes – just metal scraping on metal) but not “falling apart” bad. Sorry about your commute!!
maybe they can create a bridge with a giant metal chevrolet logo?
I wish, I just spent two hours driving to work.
A two hour commute is my idea of a nightmare! I’m so sorry you have to deal with this!!
at least it’s green!
And to think I was annoyed by wading to the post office a few blocks away… Long rainy mountainside commutes in the dark? I shudder just thinking of it.
P.S. Olive Street might be relocating to LA soon…. We’ll be like almost not really neighbors.
Whoa…freaky. Sorry about the new commute…that blows…no one messes with PJ time in these parts without some hate.
Wow, that’s a bit like the dog ate my homework excuse.
“Sorry I’m late for work, the….errrrr….road collapsed….”
I think California is one of those places that can have fabulous weather 350+ days of the year and truly dire events threatening the rest of the time. Don’t know if there’s anywhere that has stable temperate weather and minimal threats of catastrophe–Victoria, BC?
OMG, i grew up in hemet and love that little GD town. i’m currently in boise and randomly found your website through “the homies” great job!
