I got my first ever orchid from Fresh and Easy. Have you tried that place? They seem like they are popping up everywhere in California. We like the simplicity, the self checkout and low low prices and tend to go there frequently for the basics. It’s the closest thing to a Trader Joe’s that we have in awful Hemet. I really miss Trader Joe’s…
The thing is F&E has some rocking coupons. On our last visit we got $20 off of a $100 grocery bill and this $9.99 orchid as a bonus. I hear orchids can be a bit finicky, so I’m not sure how long this little dude will last in the bathroom.

I love F&E. They don't have everything, but the prices are fantastic!
they like to be in the bathroom actually, if you have a window, filtered light is the best, and only water him once a week…they like to sit above the water…i sound like a plant person but it's really just drilled into me by my husband:)
ps. these ones only bloom once in a while, so even if you think it's dead, it's probably not…
i love the shot of pink against the white walls. so pretty!
i love orchids. i keep them in indirect sunlight, water once a week/when the roots are dry. mine tend to last for a while but i ususally buy them when a lot of blooms are still closed. there's a way to cut them afer all the blooms have fallen so that it will re-grow…still figuring that part out.
OMG..what a loser…I have never, ever heard of Free and Easy…(ooopps)….Fast and Easy…(crap)…Fresh and Easy…..
Does sound a bit like a tampon ad…
too funny…. (it does)
You just have to have patience with orchids. It can be quite a while before they grow a new stem of blooms, but they last so long once that happens, it's quite rewarding. And in my experience, they're a great plant to ignore.
I have a Trader Joe's right down the street neener neener :]
But really, your orchid is pretty :] I hope it lasts!
you're in Hemet?! I have a great friend from there. small world.
Sweet, what a lovley addition to your geo-geous bathroom. Do water once a week but one tip to ensure they dont drown is hold the pot under a running tap (faucet in America?) for 20 seconds and whatever they have absorbed in that time is all they need, try not to leave them sitting in water. I have a few orchids on the go and they always come back with big beautiful blooms for me often. Cut them down to just above the pot rim when the blooms die..its always worked for me and they will come back within a few weeks.. hope it helps : )
i hear they can be a little finicky too. yours is beautiful
F&E is one of the few things I really miss about LA. aside from the gigantor Whole Foods here, Chicago kinda sucks as far as grocery stores go.
have you discovered Taurino yet? the beer tastes just like Pacifico, but it's like $5.99 for 12 bottles or $7.00 for 18 cans. RULES. oh, and their Big Kahuna $1.99 wine is ten times better than Charles Shaw.
Oh yes, we are very familiar with the Taurino. A little lime and its delicious.
I haven't tried the wine, but will now. I've been sampling the Proseccos one by one. Delicious.
But they just opened a WinCo food – its INSANE. HUGE and cheap cheap cheap – $1.98 for a 12 pack of diet coke! It may be my favorite new place.
But I have to go back to F&E for their Tortilla Soup.
