Iggy Pup got a little face time over at Desire to Inspire today for their weekly “Pets on Furniture” feature. I love those posts on DTI – you get to be a voyeur in someone else’s home and ogle their stylish pets. Its like Cute Overload and Design*Sponge combined into a mega power of things I want to look at while dicking around on the internet.
Alek’s cute Frenchie made an appearance. I LOVE French Bulldogs and have long considered them to be a top runner in my Next Top Dog competition.
Another bag of adorable. How can you resist Mette’s whippet Rufus? I adore whippets, and Rufus? Come on. SOLD.
What puppy breed is your favorite? Any recommendations for Iggy Pup version 2.0?
I want another doggy so desperately. I keep trying to convince The Boy that a Great Dane is the most obvious candidate. A very big dog and very small one together under one roof? The comedy hijinks write themselves…

This is so pertinent to me right now, we just lost my dog on Sunday and we're trying to think of what kind of dog to look for next. Our dog that died was a Cairn Terrier and she was just wonderful. We're thinking maybe a Basset Hound next.
definitely has to be the rottweiler, an absolutely great breed and iggy would be so cute next to one. I had a wonderful rott, a huge dog, weighed more than I did, but so lovable…and he thought he was a lap dog. He always slept with us & when I got out of the shower in the morning, he would have made his way laying on my pillow & be under the covers. Sadly, he got spinal cancer and had to be put down at the age of 7. That was probably 6-7 years ago and now as I am typing this I am looking at his picture that is still on my desk. Rotts got a bad rep from movies like The Omen, but they are truly great dogs.
grew up with one big and one small. they were the CUTEST. and best of buds.
i'm a lurker and love your blog but i just have to come out and say: please don't buy a purebred! or if you really have your heart set on one, at least adopt him/her from a purebred rescue org. there's one for just about every kind of dog.
but really, if the url i signed up with works please watch the video. it's about pedigree dogs exposed – breeders are breeding really ill dogs via incest.
mutts ftw!
i'm not in the market for a pedigree show dog or anything. I want to look for a "type" of dog and just kind of want to know what the possibilities are. Maybe hear experiences others have had with certain breeds I may not have considered. We've been going to the local shelter and checking out different breeds of dogs, pure bred and mutt alike.
Also, something super adolescent in me gets all riled up at being told what not to do. It makes me want to rebel like crazy…even though I may totally agree.
Its the same feeling I get when I see a person carrying a tote bag that says something about being "green" on it. I always want to sucker punch them. Or like those NOTW stickers on giant trucks or SUV's. Makes me want to slash their tires.
have you thought about greyhounds? we have a retired racing greyhound and i think she's hilarious. people always say they think greyhounds are so graceful, but i think those people have never really known one. they are awkward as hell. also, maybe it's just our dog, but she LOVES smaller dogs. also, they don't need a lot of exercise, if that's a concern for you. not to be too dorky, but i have heard them referred to as "60mph couch potatoes".
last plug: greyhounds have a sort of universal blood type for dogs. our dog donates blood at the local university pet hospital for use in emergency surgeries, etc, and in return we got free food and medical care for the first two years that we had her. no idea if this is a common arrangement, however.
There is a great dane in our neighborhood that is in love/best friends with a tiny little Iggy look-alike. It's a pretty common occurence to see the big one barreling down the street dragging its owner behind him when he sees the little guy. Then they just play and play and play. It's wonderful.
Also, every former racing greyhound I've met has been so sweet and nice and their owners are uniformly delighted with them.
Great danes are lovely, I reckon they eat stacks though. I have a wee staffordshire bull terrier that is black, white, ginger and polka dotted??! She is lovely and I would recommend a staffy to anyone
I used a website like this one … http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/... to help decide what dog to get, it pin points the breeds which are suitable to your lifestyle ie if you need a non shedding dog, or what breeds have similar energy if it's a second dog. We have a gorgeous Siberian Husky, she'd hard work but I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE her soo much!
Get a pit bull, they are in every shelter and they are the best most loving and fun dogs I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Short hair (like Iggy), no drooling, and sqooshy and soft for cuddling = perfect dog. I adopted a pit that my neighbor abandoned and he has been my shadow since day one. We have 2 pits now and it is so funny to watch them with the little dogs next door. They are very smart too and are always impressing all the pitbull skeptics.
Although I think adopting younger is sometimes better when adopting a pitbull especially when you already have a dog. And just plan on socializing the hell out of them so they know how to act around people and animals. I think it helps to be stubborn if you plan on getting a stubborn dog, otherwise they will walk all over you.
Good luck convincing the boy, I fight the same battle all the time. The more dogs the merrier!
Desire to Inspire AND The Brick House? My Frenchie's going to start demanding better pay. He's going to be impossible. And hey, my other Frenchie's name is Rufus. The husband gets credit for the name.
As for dog #2, I'm obviously biased. There's nothing more amusing than a smoosh nosed, snorting, tank of a dog. But I kind of hope you get a great dane to juxtapose with Iggy. Plus they're just plain awesome.
No Frenchies!! They have so many health problems that unless you've got a lot of money to spend to keep them breathing and not shitting themselves silly, then maybe you should settle for a pug– the low-rent version of a Frenchie. My roommate's sister-in-law's Frenchie is chock full of problems. it's dizzying.
Im a sucker for boxers….but great danes are amazing!
My friend that participates with the French Bulldog Rescue Network in LA calls Frenchies "the hothouse flowers of the dog world". Be prepared to get out your wallet for maintenance if you select one. She also tells me that they had a record number of dogs relinquished to them over the summer so if you're really dreaming of one…

Me, I just LOVE my poodles!!
You know, I haven't really thought about Greyhounds. I used to go to a dog park in Long Beach and this couple would always bring a pair and race them back and forth. They were AMAZING and beautiful and so so so sweet.
oh, i didn't weigh in…!
i back up alicia.
the sweetest dog i have ever known [and i have had several large breeds] is our pit mix emmy lou. [and other people who are not her mommy back this up all the time]
her and one of her many lovers
