By the fireplace – in case I want to set the world on fire.
How are we all feeling about the globe as decor thing?
I fear my interest may be waning.

When ever I need a little pick me up I check out your blog and it typically does the trick…..you did not disappoint today. I just ask that if you decide to go up in flames please send me the ENTIRE contents of your home first. I'll pay for shipping and handling.
Oh and YES – to the globes in a huge way.
I share your concern. I like them but I'm a little 'eh' but I love your coffee table a whole bunch.
LOVES the globes. Maybe if you are over it you can send them to Ohio.
I'm still into globes. It takes awhile to amass a collection of cool ones, so I'll probably be into them for a little bit longer.
I think globes are pretty classic, but they have been a bit omnipresent as of late. I still like 'em though. Plus they're super handy (unless you have a trendy vintage one, which might be misleading).
I was just thinking about that today… how certain objects become collection worthy and why. (and what will the NEXT thing be)?
Globes + typewriters are still the biggies. In some ways it does get a bit cliché, however there is no denying that they are beautiful objects…
i like the globes.
just don't put a collection of birds or owls next to it.
Pottery Barn has globes this season. I think there's your answer. (But they are still incredibly awesome, damn them.)
anarchy AND prettiness! you rebel, you.
I say, do what you like. Wait out Potter Barn and the mags and designers. Trends pass. I YOU aren't interested any more, different story. Vintage globes intrigue me, though, because of the changes, sort of a look back in time.
"IF" YOU – duh. Sorry.
Mad Men starts up again in a few days!
We have many maps and a few globes around our house. My husband was a geography major and loves maps. For us, regardless if they are in style or not…we will have them.

You may be feeling that globes are ubiquitous, but look at the REAL homes you visit. I would venture to guess you are the only one in your circle with globes. Sometimes the internet gives us a skewed sense of reality.
globes are good on so many levels. the old ones for a peek into the past and anything big and round works in my book…
I think globes transcend trendiness, especially the vintage ones, because there is a sense of a different time and place, as others have said. I love seeing Siam on my vintage 50s globe where Thailand "should" be, etc. etc. Plus, I love to travel, so they're a reminder of that passion as well. And I like blue.
Thumbs down I think…I like the really old globes that have countries that don't exist anymore, but somehow a trio of globes feels a little trite to me.
yeah, I know what you mean. my globes have been in a tupperware tub for a few months and I've lost the desire to get them out.
everything looks better spray painted black…..you've proven it! worth a try….
I hear ya, but I still like them!
And lol to Anonymous above – could be interesting…though part of the fun of a globe is looking at all the places in the world and day dreaming…
I've always loved globes because I'm a big traveler. But I have to say that seeing them everywhere makes me want to give mine up. "Set the world on fire" – love it.
i really like the globes…A LOT!
