Craigslist

August 16th, 2009

I’m selling this wall unit to fund the upcoming “copy the Ace Hotel” living room shelving project. I hope to break ground on C.A.H.L.R.S.P in the next few weeks…but hope and reality don’t always converge.

I styled it up for the craigslist. Looks like a million bucks, but can be yours for much much less. Special awesome discount to sexy Brick House readers if your interested.

AND…as a person who surfs the “list” quite a lot…

Anyone tired of the TERRIBLE photography in the “for sale” section of craigslist? Good god folks. Pick up a little and don’t use a cell phone camera at night. Your trying to sell this stuff, not make it look like a crime scene.

**Update: It is sold. Sweet!

100% agreed! Turns out, it isn't that hard to take a decent picture. I thought I was the only one disgusted by those horrific images! How does anyone sell anything?

    2. Jules on 08/16/2009:

I saw this tonight on CL, and believe it or not, when I read the listing and saw "Hell Yes" I knew it had to be you. Sure enough, here it is on your blog. I love and want it, but the measurements won't work for me.

No kidding! I can't believe some of the crap photos people put on craigslist…as if contacting a complete stranger and going to their house isn't freaky enough. It could make a funny blog though- the craigslist version of 'cake wrecks'. :)

    4. Vicki @ Piccolo Takes All on 08/16/2009:

Too bad I'm about a million miles away…and need to get my roof fixed. Otherwise, we could make the pick up into a fun road trip!

As far as CL photography goes, I guess I have pretty low expectations, so it's not high on my list of peeves. I get more annoyed by the listings with NO photos at all. Come on now. Let's not waste eachother's time.

    5. modfrugal on 08/16/2009:

Love it, want it, need it, live 6 states away….so sad. Thank you for caring about the photo…bugs me too….but like Vicki…the NO photo bugs me most – it is just taking the piss and wasting everyone's time.

Sadly there are approximately 2188km or roughly a 21 hour, 8 minute non-stop drive between me and my dream wall unit. Seriously, this would (should) look sick in my home office.

I hope it goes to a worthy home.

    7. My Farmhouse Kitchen on 08/16/2009:

yeah, i love to cruise c.l. but the photos suck..big time…what's the deal? it's not that hard, is it gang? heck, i know NOTHING…just "push the button" and hope the camera gods are smiling today…

love the wall unit…but i have a funny feeling you're not in California…..

    8. THE BRICK HOUSE on 08/16/2009:

No photos is the most annoying. I usually use an image browser app to avoid that whole situation.

      My Farmhouse Kitchen :
I'm in CA – near Palm Springs. Inland Empire represent!

I think the wall unit is sold…but its not a done deal till that cash is in hand.

    9. meohmyoh on 08/16/2009:

It looks fantastic, I'd buy it for sure. And yes most Craigslist photos suck! I really love what some people call "modern" HA!

    10. Peggy on 08/17/2009:

      "…if your interested."
"Your trying to sell this stuff…"

My question is, is anyone tired of TERRIBLE spelling? In this case, the targeted word should be 'you're' which is a conjunction of 'you + are' as opposed to 'your'.

On the other hand, you did use the correct word when you said, "Looks like a million bucks, but can be yours for much much less."

And yes, it does look like a million bucks. I only wish that someone would pay you that much for it. You're worth it!

    11. THE BRICK HOUSE on 08/17/2009:

Looks like the wet blanket finally showed up.

Jeeezzz. Its a reno blog I write for fun and for free. I don't really proofread this crap.

    12. lavietoni on 08/17/2009:

Haha yeah, Craigslist photos are crazy! I swear you can get by charging a much higher amount for something if you just show nice pictures of it.

    13. Julien on 08/17/2009:

Damn. That would be perfect in my place. But I'm clear across the country. Sigh.

    14. Laura [What I Like] on 08/17/2009:

Well that is most likely the best photo Craig's List has ever seen…hope you've got the cash in hand by now!

i counldn't agree more abotu (purposely left typo just to annoy peggy up there) craiglist photos, such a turn off…i love the cabinet, too bad i live so far.

    16. Juli on 08/17/2009:

That's a beautiful piece! Too bad you're so far away and we're in the midst of downsizing our way into an apartment (it appears we are regressing). I can't wait to see your revised look…btw, just saw the Ace Hotel (there is more than one?) in NYC in Wallpaper and there were some covetable elements in that joint too.

    17. THE BRICK HOUSE on 08/18/2009:

      Juli –

Oh damn – your downsizing? God, I'd love to hit that imaginary yard sale.

There are a bunch of Ace's – Palm Springs is my fav! They are all rad though.

    26. Rob on 11/04/2010:

I am also curious how much you bought/sold it for. I have the opportunity to purchase one as well.

    27. Frankie on 01/10/2013:

We have one we found on CL for less than $100.
