Kilim

May 7th, 2009

I’ve been wanting to replace the large Ikea Stockholm Rand rug that is in the living room for some time. You know…this one…

I bought it in the as-is section for $75 and thought I would love it more than I do. It was a bit of a stop gap solution to save my freshly refinished floors from doggy claws.

Finding a LARGE rug – something around 9 x 12 feet for less than $100 is proving to be quite difficult. Even the carpet remnant section is of no use.

I love the colors and graphic pattern of this Afghan Ghazni Kilim. But at 6 x 4 feet its just too small. If it was larger I would buy this in a second.

Neutral, neutral, neutral. Still 5 x 8 ft…and starting at a bid of 0.99 cents…its OK.

I love the pattern. The color? Not so much. Its sort looks like it should go in a really bland kids room in the 1980′s. Its 6 x 9ft and bidding is starting at $80 with free shipping…we might be getting closer…

I like the colors and pattern. Problem is – its only 3×6 ft.

This runner is pretty groovy. But its a runner and just not the right size.

Nice but still not right.

The impossible hunt continues for the perfect large rug for the living room that is under $100. If anyone has any ideas, sources or suggestions I would totally be game.

I would keep the Ikea rug. It looks stunning in your living room!

      A little smaller than 9′ x 12′, but:

Blue Navajo rugOval braided rug (kinda retro)

That said, I like the rug you have already. I’ve actually been considering buying one myself!

      Check out lowpricepersianrugs.com.

They have a constantly changing inventory and totally reasonable prices. We have 6 rugs that we’ve bought from him over the past several years. Each one has some small thing wrong with it, but as they say, the rug makers always tie one knot incorrectly because only allah is perfect.

(He doesn’t ship, though, so you’d have to come into LA.)

So I finally get my Rand and you’re dumping yours? :) I may be biased but I think the Rand looks fantastic in this room.

I love your Rand too, but if you crave a change, then change you should have. Have you scouted discount retailers like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods? Stock varies a lot according to area, but I’ve seen some great ethic style rugs in many of those stores.

I vote for keeping the current rug too. It’s great!

I also got my Rand in the as-is section for about the same price. I loved it in my living room, but then my dog puked on it and I decided it wasn’t worth the cash to clean it. TMI? right…

so yeah, I’m also on the hunt for a graphic rug that’s about the same size as the large Rand.

god, why do rugs have to be like, one of the hardest things to find??

The garment district in LA has a huge selection of rugs…you’ve got to bargain though and the best rugs are definitely over $100, but way less than you would pay at a retailer.

Your Rand looks fab, I defiantly WOULD NOT change it!

On that budget I would start at boot fairs and flea markets, get there early enough and there’s a fair chance of bargain….

Hi – If you’re still trying to replace your rug I would love to buy the white and black striped one. Please let me know. Thanks – Robert
